2009 has certainly come in like a lion. I cannot remember this much snow and freezing temperatures since the late '70's.
A positive note is the City of Columbus is using their new smaller snow plows and actually plowing some of our streets. Neighbors are all doing a good job of shoveling and sweeping their walks. Please keep up the great job so we are not facing Spring with a broken bone, sprain, or torn muscle.
Warm weather will be here soon and it is time to think about our annual House and Garden Tour. Our date is Saturday, June13. I currently have 2 houses confirmed and I am looking for 6 to 8 more houses, gardens, or both. Our post party will be hosted in the green space of Wade and Robin Hungerford on Forest Street. Dar Buck of DarZ Cafe will be back to cater the party, and you all know what great food she whips up. Wine will be provided by Lisa and Bill Chappel from Zeta's. Sounds like this party is shaping up.
Please let me know if you are interested in being on tour or volunteering for the event. Our volunteers have a great time and it really is not a lot of work. You will have plenty of time to get your house or garden in shape if you join the Tour now. Lisa Chappel is acting as co chair. Please do not hesitate to contact Lisa too. Volunteers staff houses,or help with set up and tear down.
We meet a few days before the event as a group to go over the Tour and have pizza at Plank's on Parson's Avenue. The pizza is provided by the Civic Association.
Other neighborhood news is the departure of Bobb Chevrolet. Two uses of the property are potentially:
* CVS Pharmacy
* COTA
Children's Hospital has helped The Dollar Store secure a lease on the vacant property next to the library. A new Dollar Store will be built there.
Membership dues are due for 2009. Welcome new Board members, Gary Stroud, vice president and Ben Fowler, member at large. Daffodils, tulips, and crocuses are coming soon.
Sincerely,
Linda Welch
President, Schumacher Place Civic Association
